Tip
Gelatine
Check jellies, yogurt, sweets, ice cream, look for agar agar instead, vegetarian products contain no gelatine.
Animal Fat
Check biscuits, breads, desserts, look for vegetable fat instead. Fat from animals is not in vegetarian products.
Cheeses
Look for those labelled " suitable for vegetarians" these are made from none animal rennet.
E Numbers
E120 (cochineal) and E542 (edibal bone phosphate) both derived from animals. Further information on e numbers is listed below.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D is often derived from lanolin in sheeps wool. Check with manufacturer if labelling does not state if it is suitable for vegetarians. Lanolin from living sheep is fine.
Worcester Sauce
Can be made from anchovies. Check with manufacturer if in doubt.
Eggs
Some lacto-ovo vegetarians only eat free range eggs, eggs used in processed food may be from caged hens unless clearly stated "free range".

stated suitable for vegetarians.
Glycerol, Glycerines, Stearates or Stearic acid.
